The problem with being environmentally conscious and making good choices, is sometimes availability – I live in rural Ireland, I get what the local Centra stocks and sometimes, I’m a little embarrassed to admit, it is because I’m vain and like pretty things that look good! Admittedly, when I’m buying a toothbrush, I don’t usually think too much about anything, other than convenience … but when I can get stylish, convenient AND environmentally conscious, I do a little Happy Dance!!

More than 3.5 billion plastic toothbrushes are produced every year and like with most plastics, at the end of their lifespan, the majority will end up in landfill or our oceans. We know plastic is bad, that it pollutes our waterways, kills our wildlife and is making its way into our food chains, therefore our bodies … but … it is sooo useful!

So, what can we do?

Personally, I’m taking every opportunity I can to ditch the plastic and choose natural, sustainable alternatives. If I can find products that work the same way but use alternatives to plastic, I’m going to choose them … if only so that I can feel a little bit better about myself!

The BAMBOOTH is a sustainable toothbrush! Its handle is 100% biodegradable, made from Moso Bamboo, the world’s fastest-growing renewable resource. It can grow up to 1 meter a day and thankfully, it isn’t the type of bamboo that pandas eat, do I don’t need to feel guilty about stealing their dinner!

There is a little bit of science to all of this too! Bamboo is CO2-neutral and produces more oxygen than trees, it takes only 3-5 years to become a mature forest and harvesting the mature stems annually doesn’t harm the mother plant. It is a natural, organically grown grass that has anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties, which is why it is often used as a chopping board for food preparation.

To get back to feeling good though, Bambooth uses 100% Recyclable packaging, which also doubles as a handy travel case. The nylon bristles are BPA free and their multi-length design offers optimal interdental cleaning, oh and did I mention? They look really stylish too!

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. ~American Indian proverb

Bambooth donate 10c of each purchase to conservation efforts promoting sustainability & habitat restoration. They have picked 4 charities which represent 4 different ecosystems- coral, marine, ocean and forest

  • The Coral Pink brush contributes to the Coral Reef Alliance, an international charity whose mission is to save the world’s coral reefs.
  • The Sea Blue brush contributes to Plastic Oceans UK whose mission is to stop plastic reaching the oceans within a generation.
  • The Aqua Marine brush contributes to the Marine Conservation Society which is the UK’s leading marine charity. It works to ensure the seas are healthy, pollution-free and protected.
  • The Forest Green brush contributes to the Jane Goodall Institute which is a global organisation empowering people to make a difference for all living things
