Update 22.05.2020If you have been following us at Smartspot for any length of time, you’ll know that we have been champions of the circular economy since long before that model had a name!! We have been trading in, reusing and recycling for years, thinking global and acting local.
And in the eight years since we started Smartspot, we’ve had time to really think about what we want to do and how we want to do it.
Initially, we were all about the tech and using our years of experience in games and the trade in model to open award-winning stores, develop a fancy website, employ lots of people and sell, sell, sell. There’s nothing wrong with this idea! It was great fun and we met some really great people – staff, suppliers and especially the lovely customers that came through our doors.
But it isn’t what we said we wanted to do when we stepped away from the fast paced, games retailer we had originally founded. We were doing the same things, just on a smaller scale and yes, it was fantastic to get home in time for tea with the kids and yes, it was fantastic to be behind a counter chatting to customers again … but it wasn’t the difference that we wanted to make.
But we can’t pretend we are not who we are … we love games, we love technology, we love sustainability and we love retail!
So, in the same way we revolutionised how you could buy games with the trade in model, from our first shop in Dublin City Centre in the early 90s – Smartspot.ie is revolutionising how we as ordinary people can make small changes that make big differences. We will still be selling Pre-owned Games, Consoles, Tech and Phones, we will still sell Lego by weight - but in addition, we will be sourcing the everyday products we all use with an emphasis on them being renewable, sustainable, recycled … products that you don’t have to feel guilty about buying and can fell good about using.
As our 11 year Earth Warrior explained to us “It’s not about Conspicuous Consumerism Dad … you have to be about Conscious Consumption”
After 20 years of working in fast paced, constantly changing retail we wanted to do something a bit different … so we did.
We love technology, we love bright, shiny gadgets that catch our imaginations and inspire us to work & play more effectively, communicate & share more easily and most of all have fun with the options that are suddenly available to make all this possible.
What we don’t like is the price! Technology can be a big expenditure, a huge commitment to something that you’re not sure you’ll like, let alone love forever.
At Smartspot we want to make it easy to date lots of different phones, brands, tablets, laptops … not to mention the endless opportunities with accessories.
You can chose brand new, never been touched boxed product, straight from our brand new, swish distribution center (with a really great coffee machine – thanks boss!).
Or, you can take the option of Used product – new to you. Serviced, clean, upgraded where needed and with a full 6 month warranty … and considerably cheaper.
How do we find these products I hear you ask? We have contacts with manufacturers and distributors worldwide from which we source both new and pre-owned devices. We ship them to our DC where our technicians take them apart, clean, test, replace and upgrade and then we pass the savings onto you.
At Smartspot, we promise to provide you with quality Used product. We clean, strip and refurbish all our Used products, and each device undergoes a rigorous testing process.
Each Used device bought from us is also covered by a 6-month warranty, giving you complete peace of mind.
At smartspot, we will accept nothing less than for our Used products to be as good as new to you!
Buying Nused from smartspot saves you money AND helps to save the environment too.
Buying Used means less manufacture of raw materials and less energy used in production.
Buying Used means less packaging being created and less long haul transportation.
Buying Used means less rubbish being sent to landfill and overall pollution.
It’s the Used equation …
Used = LESS = MORE!
